Three Simple Office Holiday Party Dos and Don’ts To Remember
It’s that time of the year again when your whole team gets together before the Holidays. For a company, it’s not just about celebrating – having a special office holiday party, whether it’s a formal dinner or something more original, can tremendously help with team bonding and showcasing your company culture and values.
If office parties are the year-end chance to relax with coworkers and maybe get to spend time with people from other departments or teams, it can also turn into HR’s worst nightmare. The music is blasting, the cocktails are delicious and staff members are given a chance to let off steam for a whole year’s worth of frustrations. To get around possible disasters, make sure to consider the staff party as an extension of the workplace. In other words, the party is the perfect occasion to have fun and strengthen bonds in a way that no meeting or group project could achieve, but it is NOT your usual Friday night out. Follow these three simple rules and everything should go for the best.

Stay away from the backbiting and rude comments/jokes. Keep the discussions light and positive. Whether you have a few alcoholic drinks or not, the last thing you should engage in is gossiping. Stay away from negative conversations and focus on having a good time with your coworkers or chances are, it won’t end well. No one wants to be in the middle of drama on the following day.

We’ve all heard embarrassing office party stories and no one wants to be “that guy.” You know, the one who drinks too much and inflicts drunken karaoke, tearful confessions and other forms of drama on everyone else.

Show up. You’ll get a chance to know your coworkers better and will be in the loop when there are smiles all around the following day as people recall the festivities.
